A few weeks ago through my ambassadorship with Fit Approach, I was selected to be part of the #ShokzSquad and review the Aftershokz Trekz Titanium Bluetooth headphones. I had previously tried their Bluez 2S headphones, and while I liked them, I found them a bit too loose on my head for more vigorous activities like running. I was excited to try the Trekz Titanium since I’d seen Jamie wearing them for a year or more, and knowing how much she runs I figured these must fit a bit more securely.
When I was selected to be part of the campaign I got to choose which colour I wanted (pink obviously. #sweatpink foreverrrrr), and had to measure my head to choose between the mini and the regular sized version. I measured and determined that the regular size was going to be best for me – and can I just say, I love that they give clear guidelines on choosing your size. It’s hard to know what size headphones you need – that’s not a typical measurement that you know off-hand!
After I submitted my info I waited (im)patiently for them to arrive. And they arrived at the perfect time – the day I was going to be attending a 5K fun run to kick off my vacation!
Before the run with my headphones around my neck. Remembering it has been 8 months since I last ran a step, and wondering what I was thinking signing up for this!
I had paired the Trekz with my phone before we left home, but I could have easily waited until the last moment to do so. It was a 5-second job, and once paired you are done. Unless you make your phone “forget” a device, you won’t need to pair them again, just turn them on and you are good to go. So easy!
They stayed perfectly in place throughout my 5k and didn’t need adjusting once. The volume controls are conveniently located on the right side underneath while the multifunction button is on the left next to your ear making it easy for you to control your music right from the headphones.
While I’d love to tell you the Trekz Titanium helped me set a new PR they didn’t. First of all the run wasn’t timed, secondly – no running in over 8 months doesn’t equate to a PR for this gal! What they did do is keep me well entertained while I cursed and whined to myself about why I wished I were not running, haha.
But my sad 5K performance aside (for the record, I was still faster than my first ever 5K, but believe me, that’s nothing to be proud of, haha), there are some pretty awesome reasons why your next pair of headphones should be Trekz Titaniums:
1) Safety
Because they are bone conduction headphones, they sit outside of your ear. This means you can listen to your music while also staying connected to what’s going on around you. In a race, this means you can hear people coming up behind you, you can hear the instructions from the road crew and are better aware of any safety concerns that may come up.
On your own this means you can hear traffic when you are out on the road, which is really important for runners and walkers, but also for cyclists. Wearing traditional headphones while on a bike has always seemed so dangerous to me, the design of Trekz Titanium makes it perfectly safe. Not to mention they are more helmet friendly that many other styles of headphones.
2) No Wires
Speaking of cyclists, did I mention these are Bluetooth headphones? That means you don’t have to worry about cords getting caught up in your arms or handlebars, treadmill, weight machine – whatever you are using. It also makes them perfect for wearing while doing less exciting tasks like house cleaning and laundry.
3) They Don’t Hurt Your Ears
I have small ear canals, and I guess small ear holes (pretty sure that’s not the technical term, haha). This means that regular earbuds hurt my ears. And for some reason over the head headphones bother the top of my head, so those aren’t ideal either. But fortunately, Trekz Titanium headphones don’t go over my head or in my ears. Assuming you order the right size (see above) you should be good to go. They even come with silicone rubber bands called “FitBands” you can add to your headphones to help them fit more securely if they feel a bit loose.

4) They Don’t Fall Out
Since they don’t sit in your ears, you don’t have to worry about them falling out of your ears. Besides the annoyance of having earbuds that won’t fit in my ears properly, this is my next biggest grievance. I feel like while running – or walking – or even sitting, they wiggle their way out and I have to readjust them constantly. Certainly a first world problem, but an annoying one all the same. I’ve never once had to adjust my Trekz which makes me love them right there.
5) You don’t have to switch headgear for phone calls
While many headphones these days come with built-in microphones and phone call controls, I don’t know many that are wireless. With built-in microphones (yes it has two), and phone controls accessed using the multifunction button, your Trekz Titaniums double as a fully functioning headset too. SO COOL!
Bonus: They are sweat proof
Worried about getting them sweaty? Don’t be. They are IP55 certified to survive all the sweat (and rain) you can throw at them!
How do they sound?
You might wonder what kind of music quality you can get from headphones that don’t cover or go into your ears but let me tell you – the quality is FAB.
I’ve gone through three or four different sets of Bluetooth headphones in the last year or so and these are by far my favourite. Not only are they comfortable, wireless, multi-use – but they help me feel safer when I’m out and about. If you are an active gal (or guy!) definitely check out the Trekz Titanium headphones.
