What’s on your checklist for a relaxing March Break?
It’s been a long winter and we all deserve a break. Fortunately, for those of us in Nova Scotia, today is the first official day of March Break! If you have a vacation planned, it helps to be prepared so you can make the most of your time off. Honestly, who wants to spend even a minute of their March Break trying to pick up must-have items they forgot? And even if you are not going away but spending some time at home, having a staycation checklist can help you make the most of enjoying time off at home!
Here is a checklist of a few things to think about ahead of time so you can truly relax and enjoy your well-deserved break:
A good book:
Whether you’re travelling somewhere warm and will have time to read on the beach, or will just finally have some downtime at home, make sure you’re prepared by picking up a good book. There’s no better time to catch up on your favourite author’s new book, or that new best-seller. If you’re not sure what to read you can check out what I’ve been reading lately in my February reads post or find me on Good Reads.
Your wardrobe choices:
If you’re going away, plan your outfits ahead of time so you strike the balance of having what you need without over packing. I’m the queen of the carry-on and very rarely find that I need more than that. I’ve even flown across North America, ran a half marathon and did 2 full days of sightseeing in San Francisco with only a carry-on.

And anyone who has traveled for a race can probably tell you – that’s a feat all in itself! You need to think about accessories and shoes to complete your looks and being efficient about the clothing you pack leaves room for those important finishing touches.Speaking of finishing touches, you can plan ahead to ensure those killer pumps don’t kill your night because of the pain and discomfort they cause. Dr. Scholl’s® For Her™ has several insole and cushioning options to fit different kinds of heels and flats, no matter what part of your foot or shoe is bothering you so you can enjoy the night! I recently added a pair in some flats that I find really hard and not very cozy and they have much a huge difference! If you’ll be somewhere where there is a lot of walking you’ll definitely want to make sure you have comfortable shoes or your feet will be killing you!
Your toiletries:
Be just as thoughtful and conscientious about what you pack in your toiletry bag. There’s nothing worse than arriving at your destination to find you’ve forgotten something essential. Take some time to create a checklist of the items you can’t be comfortable without. For starters, a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant and sunscreen. Coppertone has products to keep your whole family covered; from Coppertone ClearlySheer SPF 50 for you, to Coppertone Kids Sunscreen Lotion SPF 60 for the kids, these are great options that provide sunscreens filter UVA and UVB rays to help provide sunburn protection. ClearlySheer feels weightless on your skin, won’t clog pores or cause breakouts, and works great under makeup, while the Kids Lotion is waterproof*, so it’s ideal for water-loving kids. If you’re headed to the beach, remember that reapplying is just as important as putting on in the first place, so reapply at least every two hours, or after being in the water. As a girl who has very pale skin and burns quickly and deeply, sunscreen is always a much for me and is one of the first things I pack. You certainly don’t want a scorching sunburn to ruin your trip to paradise!
(*Retains SPF after 80 minutes of activity in the water or sweating)
An eye mask (this is a must for both vacations and staycations!):
After months of early wake-ups, there’s nothing better than a lazy morning in bed. If you’re sleeping in a room that gets bright in the morning, or you sleep with a partner who leaves the light on to read or watch TV later than you, an eye mask can help block out the light and allow you to catch up on sleep and come back from your vacation feeling refreshed! We both wear eye masks in our house and the truly make a huge difference in how well we sleep.
What are your March Break plans? What are the key items you’ll be putting on your vacation checklist so you’re prepared and make the most of the mid-winter break?
