Guess what!? Yesterday was the last full day of summer. And here in the Annapolis Valley it was flipping hot. So hot that while I was out running some errands and really wanted to get a Chai Latte, it was too darn hot in the afternoon sun to actually get one.
So instead, I came home and whipped myself up an Iced Vanilla Chai Latte Protein Chill!
What a Chill you ask? I don’t know, I just made it up, haha. It’s not thick enough to be considered a smoothie or a frappe, so I decided to go with “chill”. 😀
It was really easy to make, and was quite refreshing and pretty darn tasty. While it would be easy enough to make a traditional Iced Vanilla Chai Latte, I wanted to add the Vega One because an all-in-one nutritional shake is something I’ve become quite use to having on a daily basis. Not only does it have 20g of protein, only 160 calories/serving, it also includes vibrant green blend, vitamins and mineral from real-plant based ingredients, and basically, it is like my nutritional insurance policy. And while I love me some regular dairy milk, I enjoy Silk on a regular basis too as that’s what my husband uses. Because I’m a carb cycling gal, Silk Almond milk is perfect for days when I’m consuming fewer carbs because it has absolutely no added sugar (added sugar = added carbs, and I like to eat my carbs!), and I can enjoy the same foods and drinks I’d normally have with dairy milk. Not only that but it also has the same amount of calcium as dairy milk and has no artificial flavours or colours or nonsense. 😉 Add all ingredients into blender. Blend until ice is finely chopped. Pour into glass. Enjoy!

A couple of things I would do differently next time:
- I would let my chai tea steep longer, I only left mine for a minute or two (mostly because I was hot and impatient), but leaving it sit longer will allow for a stronger chai taste.
- I was all out, but Vanilla Chai Vega One would be PERFECT for this recipe. Vanilla Chai is tied with Coconut Almond for my favourite Vega One flavour, and is a definite must for any fellow Chai addicts (especially with the fall and winter season almost upon us!).
- The last thing I would do is blend my ice for a shorter period. I started with 1 handful of ice but over blended and had to add more in order to have any “icy” quality to the drink. I think my Ninja is still more powerful than I expect!

This recipe is a definite keeper for me – and I can’t wait to try it using the Vanilla Chai Vega One next time I buy some, yummmmmm. I didn’t really notice the taste of the protein powder in my drink (aside from the added vanilla flavour in my drink as a whole) which was really great. And I know it looks a bit like swamp water, part of me wishes I had added some vanilla matcha to make it really green. It’s that in between colour which makes it look a bit “odd” haha.
Disclosure: I was provided with both the Vega One and Silk Almond milk in order to help me #BuildABetterSmoothie, however I buy both on a regular basis as they are staples in our diet anyway.
