1 Million Step Challenge

Happy New Year!!

I ended up taking a week and a half off from writing over the holidays, but since I know you were all busy with fun of your own I’m sure you didn’t miss me. 🙂

Unlike other years I’ve decided not to post a list of goals for 2016. Why? I don’t know exactly. I guess what it boils down to is I don’t feel like it, simple as that.

I will share that in 2016 I don’t plan on running any distance races. I’m going to be sticking to 5k’s and maybe a 10k or two. I achieved a new half marathon PR last year and ran a few distance races which were fun, but this year I’m going to be more about strength and less about cardio. I originally started running distance to improve my lung strength (I have a soft spot on the top of my left lung), but if I’m being honest, all distance does is make my lungs fatigued and causes pain. I’m fine up until around 12-14k and then everything goes to pieces. So why now that I’ve gone through the training 5 times for a half and have seen no improvement in how much lung feels after the 12-14k mark I think it’s time to let that go for a while and focus on the shorter distances – which are my stronger area anyway.

That works as a pretty nice little segue for today’s topic – a one million step challenge!

In other years I’ve hosted DietBet games in January to help get us all back on track and lose those holiday pounds, but I’m really trying to move the focus from weight loss to health in general (since the later is the more important of the two in my book) so when I was contacted by HealthyWage about hosting a step challenge in January I thought it sounded like the perfect fit!

Being active, logging steps, and winning $$ Nope, you’re not dreaming. Sign up today! https://goo.gl/tBKdTY

Those of you who have participated in my DietBet games in the past – this works largely the same way but with a few differences. This particular challenge will last 100 days, and costs $100 USD to join (which you can pay in 3 monthly instalments). When you sign up you’ll be asked to create or join a team. Each team will consist of 2-9 players, and the goal is for your TEAM to average 1 million steps over 100 days. All the teams who achieve that average will win a share of the pot! Which means as long as your team averages 1 million steps you’ll get your $100 back plus more!

You can sign up by clicking here: https://www.healthywage.com/steps/suzi-fevens/

The challenge starts this Friday (January 8th), so you still have lots of time to dust off that fitbit/jawbone/pedometer and get registered.

Get a couple of your friends to join with you and make your own team and you are well on your way to winning cash and getting healthier!

Best of luck to you this year! I too am in pain when I run long distances as my lungs are somewhat weak. Hope that you have a great 2016!

I’m sorry to hear that – but glad I’m not the only one that finds it painful on the lungs more than the legs!
