Happy snowy Monday to all my fellow Nova Scotians. It only stands to reason that most of last week it was beautiful outside, and I was sick. Then I felt better and we got a blizzard. #unfortunateluck
I’m going to have to just giv’er if I have any hope of a PR this year at the Bluenose!
Which is might already explain the name of this post. This past week I had the best intentions, but those intentions were crushed when I woke up sick Tuesday morning. It wasn’t until Friday that I really started to feel better, and in the end I ended up not getting a single run in.
Could I have run on the weekend? Certainly. On the treadmill. But I had really had my heart set on running outside, and when that dream was taken away I just didn’t have the heart to hit the treadmill.
Excuses, excuses. I know.
Another part of my plan for last week was to figure out my strength training workouts, that too didn’t exactly go as plan. Mostly because I didn’t get anything planned. However, after a Facebook discussion with Lara, I’ve decided not to focus on strength training, because as she said I still get a far amount while teaching even when I’m dumping and coaching, so I really only need to focus on sport specific exercises. That I am planning to incorporate on the weekends so during the week I only need to focus on getting one or two short runs in around all of my classes and then my long run and my strength workout on the weekend. That will give me a full rest day each week, as well as an active rest day on Mondays (when I teach 2 evening yoga classes).
If you read my training post last week and are wondering about my training load (via my polar) the answer is I only taught cardio on Thursday (I cancelled my Tuesday classes when I woke up sick), but didn’t feel well enough to be bothered with wearing my heart rate monitor. I also had pretty much figured out the week was a write-off training wise so I wasn’t worrying about it. So this week I’ll be wearing it to get my training load figured out so I can see if I am safe to push myself bit harder during my runs or if I need to scale back a bit, etc. Technology (when used properly!) is pretty rad.
So this post is really short and sweet as there isn’t much of anything to report.
Let’s hope this coming week is more action packed!
