TRANSFORM by moveBALL™ 30-Day Fitness Challenge Review

January is one of the busiest times of year for gyms, fitness centres, and the at-home fitness market. But when you’ve made the decision to focus on your health, how do you decide which option is going to work best for you?

Obviously as a fitness instructor I am partial to fitness classes, and training with a trainer, but I know and understand that isn’t an option for everyone. Sometimes it’s a lack of availability in your area, or lack of time, or financial issues that hold us back from making those decisions. That’s why workouts you can do at home are such a great option. There are affordable, can be very portable, and above all else – can be done on your own time in your own home. No driving anywhere, or getting a babysitter or worrying about snowstorms. You just carve out a few minutes and get it done.

While I’m not in the position to *need* an at-home workout program per say, I do prefer following someone else’s workout plan, especially when it comes to strength training. While I am perfectly capable of creating my own plan, I always work harder and are better challenged when using a plan someone else has created for me. That is what really excited me about working with Fitness Matters to complete their TRANSFORM by moveBALL™ 30-Day Fitness Challenge!

Fitness matters

Fitness Matters was started by Anita Parker and her best friend Jamie-Dee Marshall. Together they formed Fitness Matters, and then went on to develop the TRANSFORM by moveBALL™ 30-Day Fitness Challenge which is designed to help busy adults get fit. The challenge is 30 days of 30-minute workouts and when you order it, everything you need to complete the challenge comes right in the box!

Kit

You can choose between a 4, 5 or 6kg moveBALL (I was sent the 5kg), a core training ball, jump rope, workout guide & logbook, and a USB with videos of the workouts/moves.

You start off the challenge by completing a fitness assessment which you will repeat at the end of the 30 days to see where you’ve improved physically. One thing I really liked is that there is no talk about how much you weigh, or measurements. This challenge is purely physical. So many people will get caught up in how they look, they forget to take before and after measurements of their fitness, and that is typically where you will see the fastest changes.

assessment

Now in full disclosure, I haven’t quite finished my 30 days yet. Why? Because it hasn’t been practical for me to add these daily workouts to my already somewhat crazy schedule. So I’ve been completing them on my lighter teaching days, and followed the challenge over my vacation at the end of December.

Also, I haven’t yet had the chance to use the jump rope for anything besides the Elongate workout because our basement doesn’t have high enough ceiling for me to safely use it inside. And well, it’s winter outside. 😉 But it’s easy enough to complete the jump rope intervals without a jump rope. Though I gotta say I’m excited to take it outside and play come spring. I love me some jump rope! 😀

Let me tell you, these workouts are no joke! They are set up in circuits (and they even have a moveBALL interval timer you can download on your phone to keep track of your rounds which I LOVE!), and many days I don’t even make it through all of the rounds. I’m all about quality over quantity so when my muscles get so fatigued I can’t complete anymore with good form, I know it’s quitting time. There have been days I only made it through 2 full rounds of the circuit and was toast. I remember the day I took this picture I could barely walk for the rest of the day, hahaha.

legs

I can hear what you’re thinking, “If someone who works out for a living finds these workouts hard, there is no way I can do them!” That simply isn’t true. There are lots of options given to increase or decrease the intensity and difficulty so it is really a great program for everyone, whether you are new to the fitness game, or you’ve been around for a few seasons. And they are filled with functional moves that will both support and assist you in everyday living.

Move

I’m pretty much in love with my moveBALL. It is just so versatile! From their website:

The moveBALL™ itself is a weighted rubber ball with two handles, integrating all the pulling, pressing, rotating, and swinging capabilities of a dumbbell, kettlebell, and medicine ball into one piece of portable equipment. Available weight loads are 4-kg, 5-kg and 6-kg. No more or no less is required for the whole-body, movement training concept of the Moveball™ system.

It’s just so good! I personally much prefer the moveBALL to a kettlebell. To each their own, so I’m sure lots of kettlebell peeps would beg to differ, but I find the moveBALL easier to handle and for me personally it doesn’t bother my joints/fibromyalgia like the kettlebell does.

As I mentioned above, all of the workouts come in at under 30 minutes/day, but there is nothing stopping you from cutting that in half again like I sometimes do. Especially if you are a beginner, you may find completing the circuits through twice is more than enough of a challenge for you to start. If you go that route, just be sure to write how many complete rounds of the circuits you did in your daily logbook so that you can once again easily see how much your progressed from the start to the end of the challenge.

This challenge is going to be my go-to strength workout for the winter. I’m planning to continue it past the 30-days. Even though I can’t realistically get 30 consecutive days in, that doesn’t mean I can’t reap the benefits of the workouts! I’m particularly excited about strengthening some of those leg muscles that get forgotten in standard, static type exercises. This girl needs to get ready for race season!

I love how much stuff comes in this kit!! I too love the skipping rope, but probably also wouldnt have a chance to use it much until the spring. I remember my ropes freezing and breaking when I was a kid! But it would be great to have some fairly small items that I could use on days I dont make it to the gym.

The moveBall looks so cool! I really enjoy the kettlebell, so I’m quite curious about this. It helps when you know someone who has tried…and enjoyed the product.

Oh this looks so cool! I’m definitely on the market for at-home workouts these days… love going to the gym but it’s just so much EASIER to take a quick exercise break in the middle of the day at home (since I’m working from home… and since it’s REALLY cold out there!).

So awesome that it comes with the guide & log book, too.
