I’ve had the opportunity to try Energy Bits a few times over the past year or so. The company was kind enough to sent me a small tin of bits on two separate occasions so I have had the chance to try them out in a couple different ways before writing this post.
Energy Bits are made up of spirulina algae which is a super duper super food ;). It has been declared the most nutritious food in the world by The World Bank, The United Nations and NASA just to name a few but don’t take my word for it – read about all the health benefits of spirulina yourself and you be the judge!
NASA feeds algae to it’s astronauts and says, “1kg of algae has the nutritional equivalent of 1000kg of fruits and vegetables.” <–That right there, mind blowing.
I saw an interview last week with a dietician that said in the future we will be eating more and more seaweed/algae as more and more of the nutrients are stripped from the earth while there is an abundance of nutrients found in the ocean!
But let’s get real for a second. Eating algae takes some getting use to. The flavour is pretty dang strong, and that can turn a lot of people off right from the get go. That’s why Energy Bits are such a great option. You can swallow them whole (like you would a pill) without tasting them at all! The benefits of algae without the taste? Sounds good to me!
One thing I really appreciate about Energy Bits, it that in one 30 tab serving you are only consuming 30 calories, no additives or chemicals and are getting 5g of protein! Which leads me to my favourite use for Energy Bits. I’ve taken them before teaching classes, before (and during) long runs, and I’ve used them on mornings when I simply didn’t have time for a proper breakfast. And while a 30 calorie breakfast certainly isn’t ideal, when it’s that or nothing I’ve found that one serving gives me enough energy to get through my morning class and then I can have something more substantial afterwards. These bits have saved me on more than one occasion from starving through a morning class, so I always make sure I keep some on hand for those breakfast “emergencies” 😉
If you are looking for a natural, high quality food to add into your diet take a look at Energy Bits – especially if the taste of seaweed/algae has put you off in the past, this is the ideal way for you to get the benefits without the taste!
Disclosure: I was provided with Energy Bits free of charge in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
