Different Things Work for Different People

Today I want to talk a little bit about finding what works for you. These days, you hear a lot people talking about going Paleo and how much it has helped them with health concerns, weight loss, etc. and swear by it.

I’ve read lots of tweets/Facebook statuses about how different people claim it is “the only way to go”.  In fact if you do a Google search you’ll find a number of websites that straight up claim is it the healthiest way to eat.

Interestingly, it is one of the diets that is often recommended for people with Ulcerative Colitis, which I find almost comical considering my husband cannot eat any raw fruits of veggies without getting ill, can only eat a very small variety of grossly over cooked vegetables, no nuts or seeds or no shellfish, all things that make up a large part of the Paleo diet.  I realize every UC case is different, but if I were to put him on this type of eating plan I can promise you, he would be a patient in the hospital due to internal bleeding in under two weeks.

I’m not trying to pick on Paleo here, I’m only using it as an example because it seems to be the “hot” diet/lifestyle right now, and because of the UC connection.

In most cases, people following a certain lifestyle are awesome.  They are happy to share what they think of it, without pushing it on others.  But then there are always fanatics that insist that it is the ONLY way to go.  This is simply not true.  It might be the only way to go for them, but it is certainly not the only way to go for everyone.

Everyone is different, and therefore everyone likes different things.

There is no one diet that will work every person, just as there is no single workout that everyone will like.

So when you find that diet/lifestyle and that workout that you LOVE, share it with the world.  Tell people about it, inform them, but don’t push it on them.  Just as nobody like having politic and religious views pushed on them, nobody likes being told their favourite form of exercise, and the way they choose to eat is wrong.

You be you, I’ll be me, and then we can all be happy 🙂

    I couldn’t agree more Suzi! That’s what I always tell people, find your soul mate workout and do it! You’re more likely to stick with it 🙂

    Love the advice! I believe also that everyone is different and each person needs to eat the food and do the exercises that make THEM happy!
