Ultimate Booty Workouts + Giveaway

WP_20140319_001

Exercises to build, lift and sculpt an amazing butt – where do I sign up!?

I’ve said it before, and I’ll probably say it a million more times, but I have some pretty cool friends. My friend (and colleague) Tamara is a published author, and I’m pretty excited to be reviewing her book!

Ultimate Booty Workouts is a 12-week program for all fitness levels that focuses on all the muscles of your rear view 😉 and will leave you with a sculpted and amazing booty, and will help accelerate fat loss, improve posture, decrease back/hip/knee pain, tighten and flatten your abs!

I really identified with Tamara’s story that she shares in the introduction of the book, she (like myself) is a fitness instructor and after years of teaching fitness classes I too have found myself in a position where I am very much “quad dominant”.  J has remarked on numerous occasions when giving me a leg massage that compared to my quads, my hamstrings feel really weak.  I think that I’ve already improved my hamstring strength by doing so many Physique 57 workouts in the past few months, but it’s certainly an area I need to improve upon.

In reading through the book I really appreciate the time Tamara took to explain everything, so frequently fitness books give you the workouts with very minimal explanation as to why you are doing it, and how to properly execute the moves.  In Ultimate Booty Workouts you can tell great care was taken to explain each phase of the 12-week program, the main exercises as well as all the variations, and the equipment needed.  <–This is something beginners especially should thank her for.  Great explanations = less likeliness to get injured!

Each exercise and variation comes complete with a photo (because as we all know, sometimes a written description (especially when it comes to exercises) can leave a lot to be desired – a picture says so much more!

And from a fitness professional’s stand point, this is one of the only books I’ve ever gone through where I didn’t see someone demoing an exercise wrong.  In so many books and articles I see the most horrific demos of exercises (one that really comes to mind is an exercise involving an aerobic step where the risers weren’t locked in place.  Had the model actually stepped on that step she would have gone flying!), so it was really, really nice to see that someone who knew what they were talking about, and cares about form what on hand to demo the exercises (yes you can see Tamara in many of the photos!) or coaching the model who is demoing. This = huge in my books.

At the back of the book Tamara has provided blank workout templates so we can make copies and fill in our workouts for each phase (because there are exercise different options for different fitness levels it made more sense to leave them blank so each individual could tailor their workout to fit their fitness level), which is another great addition.

I hate it when workout plans/books don’t give you a template or workout list that you can easily take with you to the gym.  Who wants to wander around flipping through a whole book to find each exercise?  Not this girl!!

I’ve been trying not to do too much lower body stuff lately as I seem to have a pulled muscle in my right leg, but once that is feeling better I’m planning to start the 12-week program.  As usual I’ll have to make some modifications due to my class load, but I’m looking forward to building up those hamstrings and working on my ultimate booty 😉 And you can be sure I’ll be sharing my journey on social media so you can follow along and see how I do!

What do you think?  Do you want an ultimate booty too?? Well you’re in luck!  The lovely folks over at Ulysses Press have offered one of my readers their very own copy of Ultimate Booty Workouts!  All you need to do is fill out the Rafflecopter form below to enter (giveaway open to residents of Canada & US).

Good luck!!

Thanks for the great review! And we’ve since added downloadable and printable copies of the workout templates to make it easier for folks who don’t have access to a photocopier.

She taught me to knit through her facebook page (although I haven’t really made it past dish cloths) so it would be sweet to pick up some fitness tips from her too. Fingers crossed! 🙂

My favourite lower body exercise is squats esp. sumo squats for some reason.

I agree it’s hard many times to find a book that actually demonstrates exercises correctly! Btw I have grown to love the balance ball on the wall squats, I feel like I can really use my glutes during the movement.
