Your Holiday Travel List

I’m home from my trip to Toronto and with so much holiday travel in store for many of us, it seemed like a good time to share some of my favorite travel tips to help keep you feeling comfortable and happy when on the road! And because I did *just* come home from a super fun trip, I’ve added some photos from my trip throughout this post so you can see some of the things I did while away.

Your Holiday Travel List

Whether you are traveling to escape the cold or to visit family during the holidays, the first step to a successful journey is a well-packed bag. Forgetting something important can put a damper on your holiday fun. That’s why I have put together this handy list of items you may have forgotten to pack. Some of them may surprise you!

Documents

Do you have your passport, itinerary, booking reference codes and insurance forms packed? A misplaced bag at the airport or hotel could leave you stranded. Make sure to back up your documents with an online copy. Use a secure place like Google Drive that can be accessed from anywhere in the world.

Even if you keep all electronic files, all it takes is one lost phone or dead battery and suddenly you don’t have any of your electronic tickets. That’s why I like to send a copy of all electronic tickets and passes to at least one other person in my party so if something happens to my phone, we still have access to those documents.

Comfy shoes

No matter what you’re traveling for, you can bet you will be doing lots of walking.

Make sure to pack a comfy pair of shoes that will keep you going all day. And to be on the safe side, take two super supportive comfortable shoes as one pair might get wet or dirty and you’ll be happy to have a backup pair that won’t wreck your feet.

Reusable water bottle

Not only will you save money by bringing your own water along, but it’s also a helpful reminder to stay hydrated throughout your trip.

This is especially important if you are going somewhere hot or will be doing lots of activities. If traveling domestically, I often skip this step and go to a grocery store and buy a couple of big bottles of water to drink while I’m away. It saves space since I try to travel lightly and prevents me from spending piles of money on small bottles of water.

Take care of your gut

Traveler’s constipation is very common thanks to the lack of physical movement while in transit, stress, and change in diet. RestoraLAX is an easy way to restore your body’s natural rhythm. Dissolve RestoraLAX into your favorite hot or cold drink – there’s no grit or taste! I also like to take my favorite blend of essential oils that help soothe the digestive system, along with a few peppermint tea bags to help keep my tummy happy while away.

Headphones

Make sure to pack your favorite pair of headphones so you can zone-out and enjoy yourself on the journey, chill-out on the beach or even block out the commotion of other travelers during the holidays. And if you are like me and like to listen to something to put you to sleep at night, make sure the headphones you bring are comfortable to wear at night if you are sharing a hotel room with friends who might not be happy to listen to whatever movie or audiobook you want to listen to at night.

Allergy medication

You’ve probably packed your vitamins, deodorant, glasses, and toothbrush, but did you pack your allergy medication? Going to a different climate or environment can expose you to potential allergens and make for an unpleasant trip. Claritin Rapid Dissolve gives you non-drowsy, 24-hour allergy symptom relief, so you can enjoy every second of your vacation. These dissolve instantly on your tongue so you don’t need water. From the ocean to the mountains, you can take it anywhere!

Because I have problems with my sinuses when I fly, I like to take an allergy medication that also contains a decongestant like Claritin Allergy + Sinus Extra Strength because it comes complete with a decongestant to help me feel comfortable throughout my trip.

Create your evening oasis

When you are away from home there is no avoiding an upset of your usual routines. As a result, we can really feel out of whack and end up not enjoying our time away. That’s why I like to try and recreate my night rituals as much as possible when away so that I can ensure I am sleeping as well as possible. Because without a good night’s sleep, nobody will be happy! At home, I sleep with a white sound machine, and while it’s not always possible to take it with me when I travel, I can find room for my tiny Bluetooth speaker. That coupled with a free White Noise app on my phone, I’m able to bring my sound machine with me!

I also enjoy having a cup of tea before bed so bring a few of my favorite teas with me when I travel as most hotel rooms come with a coffee maker which can be easily used to make hot water for tea. Finally, I have a bath, and I bring my sleeping mask and relaxation essential oils to cap off the nighttime routine making me feel like I’m at home even when I’m not. Whatever your night routine might be, try and find a way to recreate that when you are on the road to help you enjoy a better night’s sleep.

Enjoy your vacation! What unexpected travel items can you never leave at home? I would love to know, leave your suggestions in the comments below.
