Friday Faves 5

Well helllllllo there!

Things have been a bit off around here lately, and that’s because I’m currently computerless. Yup, a computerless blogger – not exactly ideal.

Back in December my much loved iMac died. I know, I know, everyone keeps saying to me, “I thought Mac’s NEVER die!” Well, I guess if you use one most every day for countless hours for 7 full years you can in fact kill one. I took it to the doctor and it wasn’t repairable, so it’s currently sitting in our media room in the corner looking sad.

That was pretty big setback as that is the computer I ran iTunes from, but since my iPod has 16gb of music on it I was still able to continue on without my full library, though it’s been a bit annoying.

Fortunately, I have a Windows laptop that I’ve been able to use since December to continue blogging and whatnot. The bad news is that it would crash and give me the black screen of death at least once a day, and this past weekend full out died too. It’ll turn on, but once on I can’t get it to function. I’m fairly certain it’s a software issue, but frankly, I’m not interested in sinking any money into it at the moment. It’s probably 5 years old and running windows 7 so I’ll let someone else deal with that mess later.

The good news is I’ve ordered a new Macbook – the bad news is that it’s currently on back order, with no date listed as to when it might be shipped. I couldn’t make this up if I tried, and at least knowing that someday I’ll have a working computer again has kept me from completely losing what’s left of my mind. But only just barely.

So – – for now, I’m stuck working from my phone, iPad and stealing my husband’s computer (like I am right now), so it’s a bit of a pain but a complete disaster.

Which brings us to today’s post – my Friday Faves from last week… I didn’t feel like coming up with a new name or waiting to post this until Friday so “Friday Faves – On a Wednesday” it is!

Side note: The various computer issues have also been the reason I haven’t been able to post more videos. I’m not overly fond of the quality of videos shot from my iPad and my editing software isn’t available on my husband’s computer, so I’m holding off until my new Macbook arrives).

Now that, that’s been sorted – let’s move on!

Peter & Pat’s Pierogies

Peter & Pat’s Pierogies have recently launched in Canadian Costco locations and they were kind enough to send me a package to try out. Potato, cheese and bacon? Yes please!

But these are no ordinary pierogies, Peter & Pat use a 60-year-old family recipe, made with 100% real potato, 100% natural ingredients and 100% family tradition and frankly, they are straight up delicious.

I’m not sure if my husband had ever had pierogies prior to this, but since having then he has talked about them on a number of occasions. I mean really, how can you not love cheese and bacon enveloped in potato goodness? I prefer boiling mine and then serving with cheese, fresh black pepper, sour cream and chives (though I didn’t have any chives to add that day), but you can also bake, fry, steam, or microwave them. This is definitely a product to look out for the next time you are at Costco. They make a great, filling, quick meal on those days you are short on time.

Best Skin Care Tips

A few weeks ago I was included in an expert (!!) roundup of the best skin care tips along with over 200 others. It’s a great round up with lots of great tips!

DuckTales Reboot Trailer

Internet friends, you should know I’m little more than a 10 year old girl. The ringtone for my phone is the DuckTales theme song (the original), so when I found out a year or two ago they were doing a reboot I was THRILLED. Then I found out that David Tennant was voicing Scrouge McDuck and basically lost my mind. Well, a couple weeks ago the first trailer was released. Oh yes. I’m excited.

In case you are just now learning of this amazing reboot, here too, for your viewing pleasure is the cast singing the theme song (which clearly I was quite thrilled about):

Oh yes. Ohhhhhh yes.

Logan

Last weekend we went to see “Logan” and it was soooooooo good. If you’ve followed the X Men movie franchise (or comics) you will surely enjoy this film. It’s definitely not for kids as there is a lot of violence and language, but it was so well done. Definitely a two thumbs up movie.

Zim’s Max Crack Creme

This winter has been rough on my skin, especially those poor feet of mine that get so beat around in classes. Zim’s Max Crack Creme has been wonderful to help re-hydrate and keep cracks away. It’s a natural-based herbal formula perfect for softening and moisturizing your rough skin and tough patches on your elbows and feet. And I’m giving away some over on my Twitter page! The giveaway ends TONIGHT (March 15th) so pop over to this tweet and enter for your chance to win!

ProtienPlus PowerBars

I’m not fond of replacing meals with protein bars, but I am fond of having a quick option for snacks or days when I simply don’t have time to make something and the new ProteinPlus bars from PowerBar have been perfect. As an added bonus, my husband (who often can’t eat protein bars due to dietary restrictions) has been able to eat them as well which is fabulous!

These new bars that launched in September are very low in sugar with only 2-3 grams of sugar per bar, and like all our ProteinPlus bars they are also Gluten Free. They do contain Sucralose which usually upsets my stomach, but I haven’t noticed any ill effects with these bars. In general I try to stay away from artifical sweeteners, but when the choice is either a protein bar with a little sucralose, or nothing at all – the bar is going to win.

PowerBar sent me both the Creamy Chocolate Peanut Butter and Lemon Poppy Seed flavours and I’ve enjoyed both of them. By the time I got a chance to take photos, someone had polished off the box of chocolate peanut butter so they are noticeably absent, haha.

I am often very picky about my protein bars because frankly, I think they most taste like dirt. But I have really enjoyed these and will definitely be re-purchasing them. It’s worth it to have something with 20g of protein in it that my husband can actually eat since his UC him so restricted, and adequate protein is so important.

Giveaway ENDED:

And I have awesome news for you! The folks at PowerBar have kindly offered to send one of my Canadian readers some of their new ProteinPlus PowerBars to one of you!

To enter, please leave a comment below telling me what your dream protein bar flavour would be! They’ve already made mine – chocolate peanut butter!

A winner will be chosen via rnadom.org on Wednesday, March 22nd, 2017. Good luck!

Congrats Leanne! Random.org chose you as the lucky winner!

My dream flavor would be salted caramel. That’s my favorite flavor for my energy gels so I can only imagine that would be yummy for a protein bar too.

I’m brand spanking new to the Power Bar game- never been one for the taste, but I’ve recently started working out and I’d like to extend my gym times, so I feel like a protein bar would be a perfect holdover to keep me from feeling shaky and letting me work harder & longer…
I love mint aero- if it could taste at all like that, I’d but them!! So mint chocolate (not mint choc chip- totally not the same!)

    Thanks!

I’m sorry to hear about you Mac computer. I know how annoying it is to switch from Mac back to Windows. I just switched to Mac myself and it’s true they say that once you go Mac you can never go back…to Windows that is. lol. About Peter & Pat’s Pierogies, they’re absolutely my favorite. One of my go to comfort food right there. haha

It’s so true! I’ve been obsessively checking my order constantly, and it has finally shipped so in a couple days I’ll be back in business – I can’t wait! I use a password manager and bought it for Mac (not PC) so all this time I’ve had to type out all my looooooong crazy secure passwords key by key and I can’t wait to have my new mac where I’ll be able to type in my main password for my password manager and have it do the dirty work again!

Definitely a comfort food, my goodness they are delicious!
