By now it’s certainly no secret that I’m an animal lover. Our two cats rule our (my) lives and if I could adopt every animal who needs a home I would. I’m the person who stalks the local SPCA Facebook page and shows my husband every picture they post when someone adopts one of the animals. He has told me countless times, “You don’t need to show me every cat and dog that gets adopted,” oh but I most certainly do!
As part of the President’s Choice® Nutrition First® campaign I’m working on, they wanted to send me and one of the kitties to a spa to get them all primped and fluffed in time for the holidays! Well, Pekoe and Ollie are very much home bodies. In that, they lose their minds anytime they have to go in the car, so going to the kitty spa seemed like it was going to be more of a Suzi headache than anything. Instead I asked if I would be able to use the money they had set aside for this experience to go out and purchase a bunch of President’s Choice® Nutrition First® cat food to donate to the SPCA. I know they are always looking for supplies and food, and since our cats are already spoiled, I thought it would be nice to give some other, less fortunate kitties a little something instead.
We regularly donate to the SPCA, but always in the way of a monetary donation so this was my first time collecting food to drop off there. I’m quite lucky that our nearest SPCA is less than 2km from my house, and is on one of my running routes.
On Friday when I was getting groceries, I loaded up my cart with a bunch of cat and kitten food, as well as a bag of kitty litter. I have to say buying all that food was much more fun than just handing over a few bucks online.
But Miss Ollie really didn’t understand why I’d be bringing so much kitty food home that she wasn’t allowed to get into!
What a girl. I told her, this food is for kitties who don’t have a nice home like you do. She still was a little miffed but decided it was okay for me to give it away.
I also had a few bottles of bleach in the basement that I found recently when cleaning up stuff, and since I never use bleach (and it’s always on the SPCA wish list), I grabbed those to take as well.

Needless to say they were pretty happy when I piled all this stuff up on the floor. As a result, I’ve decided that instead of always giving money (which we will still do on occasion), I’ll pick up a little something with each grocery trip and once a month drop off some donations, like I do for the food bank.
As an animal lover, being able to give a little something to the animals waiting for their forever homes makes me happy. And with the season of giving upon us, I’d like to urge all of you to think about donating both o your local animal shelter and local food banks for the people and puppies and kitties that are less fortunate than ourselves.
If donating to your local animal shelter, check out their Facebook page in advance. They will often list things they really need or are running short on. When I checked they were asking for dry kitten food (which is why I bought two bags of kitten food, and only one of adult). If you are going to give anyway, you may as well give things that are needed the most.
Disclosure: This is a sponsored post brought to you by President’s Choice® Nutrition First®. All thoughts and opinions expressed are entirely my own. I would also like to thank PC for providing me with gift cards to purchase the food donated to the SPCA.

I love this idea! I have some dog stuff I’ve gotten in subscription boxes that just don’t work for my dog, but I bet the pups at the SPCA would love them.
YES!!!! Our local SPCA often asks specifically for treats, toys and things like that. I bet they’d be thrilled to have them!
i LOVE that you did this!! i give money usually tru their fundraisers but often buy some bleech or treats for the kitties & give dog toys my babies get that they dont need to the pups. (also when getting new towels or sheets they use them for bedding!)
i also go to pet valu in NM for dog bones & you can purchase things for the kings SPCA there & they will deliver for those who dont live close like us! 😉
