Sausage And Mushroom Pretzel Pizza

I am a sucker for a pretzel roll. And soft pretzels in general. If we are out for supper and I’m looking at burgers and one is on a pretzel roll, you can almost guarantee I’ll order it. There is just something about the salty, chewy goodness that gets me every time.

So how it has never occurred to me to make a pretzel pizza crust I’ll never know. But those clever folks at President’s Choice thought to make one, and made my day by sending me one to try!

Not only did they send me a delicious PC Pretzel Pizza Thin Crust, but they also sent me a Sausage and Mushroom Pretzel Pizza Recipe to try.

The original recipe is found here on their website, but I made a few adjustments to my version to fit what I had on hand. Whenever you are following a recipe like this and you don’t have exactly what they call for, don’t be afraid to change it up a little bit! That won’t always work (no Amy, you can’t replace salt with baking soda even though they are both white powders) but when it comes to toppings on a pizza go for it!

The biggest alteration I made was I reduced the amount of honey mustard used in the sauce because I had honey mustard sausages and used those so the flavour was already incorporated into the dish.

If you are reading this and don’t have access to President’s Choice products, don’t fear! I did a quick little google search and found a highly rated Pretzel Pizza Dough recipe so you can make your own! Find it here: http://www.thegunnysack.com/2015/01/pretzel-pizza-recipe.html

Wondering how the crust tastes after it’s baked? Because it’s quite thin (unlike a pretzel roll), it gets pretty crunchy and tastes a lot (almost exactly) like eating a big flat pretzel. It was yummy! Much crunchier than your average soft pretzel, but more doughy than a regular snacking pretzel. It gets two thumbs up from me! As a bonus, because you are using a pre-made crust, the recipe comes together pretty quickly. And even if you decide to go the homemade route, it won’t take you all day to whip up this pretty fancy sounding pizza.

Now that I’ve seen The Gunny Sack’s recipe, I’m going to have to try making my own to see how they compare!
