Hurrah! Sunday afternoon I was able to go get my long run in OUTSIDE without the fear of falling on ice, or freezing my lungs off. Though the thought of actually running 7 miles was a little worrisome.
But off I went. My Polar needs a new battery so I was running without knowing my heart rate or pace, so I purposely tried to go as slowly as I could as to not over tire myself, especially since this is the longest run I’ve gone on since well, last May…
I did fire up Strava before I left so I would be able to check in on my phone now and again to see ho I was coming along distance wise/time wise, but for the most part just plodded along oblivious to how fast I was going or how long I’d been out there.
I find on long runs that listening to podcasts is really the way to go (for me). There is no BPM to pace me so I can concentrate on just running, not about syncing my steps to the pace of the song. Long runs are suppose to be slow so I find this method to work perfectly for me.
Considering how far I went I was pretty pleased that the only thing that was hurting near the end was my foot (and that was a muscle “why are you running so far?” hurt, not any type of actual injury/issue).
a 12 minute mile is about what I would expect for me on a slow run, so considering I was running blindly so-to-speak I was pretty pleased that I managed to stay right on track.
All in all it was a good run, and made me feel like even though I’ve had a really late start, I can manage the Bluenose Half next month, and assuming I get all my long runs in from here on out, actually PR. That’s the plan anyway. 😉
