Miscellaneous Monday Changes

Hi everybody! I hope you’re having a lovely day so far. I’ve had a few things rattling around in my head that I thought I should tell you about but they aren’t important enough to dedicate an entire post to so here we are!

Blog Changes

I’ve turned off comments.

I’ve thought about this for a while now, but decided to go ahead and take the plunge. The reality is 98% of the time the comments I get here are spam, and despite my many spam filters there are some that still get through and it’s annoying having to come in and manually delete them each day. Most of the really commenting and conversation from my posts happens on Facebook, Twitter or via e-mail and I find that type of conversation more engaging than comments here. I try to reply to comments here and then that person never sees my reply or doesn’t bother to come back and reply, but if they say something on Facebook or Twitter and I reply, it often opens up a conversation, plus it’s easier for other to get involved.  Plus leaving comments on blogs can be annoying. I rarely leave comments on blogs because my comments seem to always go to spam (because of my long URL) so I get annoyed and find it much easier to read a post and then comment on the associated Facebook post, or tweet the person.

Obviously when comments are necessary (like on a discussion post, or giveaway) I will manually turn them on, but for the most part if you have something to say I’d love to read about it on Facebook or Twitter, or email. And you can always share or Pin my content – all of that is very much encouraged. Basically I’ve just removed a mostly unused way to connect with me, so for most of you I don’t think you’ll notice any difference in how you connect with me but I thought it worth mentioning.

Video Changes

You may or may not have noticed that I didn’t post a vlog last week, and that’s because I’m going to be taking the weekly vlog in a different direction. I spent the last week or two deciding where I wanted to take it and I decided to go in a direction that I felt I would most like to watch. When I started it I thought I’d have more than enough work related oddities to vlog about, but as it turns out – I don’t. So, while I won’t be vlogging all the details of my life, I thought it would be more interesting to vlog about my life not strictly as a fitness instructor, but more how I find balance (or at least try to!) doing what I do. That means eating, teaching, workouts, fibromyalgia, blogging, the whole works. This video thing is new to me so I’m sure it’ll go through a few more changes before I really get it figured out, but that’s the plan for now!

Oh, and instead of posting on Mondays, I plan to have the new video up each Friday instead.

Business Changes

I don’t think I’ve mentioned here on the blog but I’m working on a certification in nutrition and weight loss. I have been for a while now and I’m now studying for my final exams. I won’t be a dietician or nutritionist (so won’t be providing in-depth counselling for people with existing health concerns requiring that type of attention) but will be able to offer coaching for the general population who need help/guidance with nutrition and weight loss. I like to think I was already pretty knowledgable about nutrition but the amount of information I’ve learned since taking these courses is crazy! Information overload for sure. So if it seems like I’ve been a bit quiet or a bit MIA for the next month or so, it’s because I’ve got my head in a book (or books)!

Fitness Changes

This sort of goes hand in hand with the video business. I have such a hard time getting in my own workouts with all the classes I teach. You may wonder why I would even ned to work out when I teach so much, and the answer is – balance. I teach a lot of the same things over and over week after week so it’s very easy to build muscle imbalances. I need to get into having my own daily yoga practise that doesn’t involve me wandering around adjusting people. And I need to get back to strength training. I stopped my own lower body workouts back when I hurt my foot in May, but it’s time to get back at it.

I’m pretty excited that I’ve been invited to a studio to participate in classes over the next couple months (which I will of course be vlogging about!). For now I’m going to keep it a secret, but I’ll be going for my first class within the next week so you’ll hear more about that soon!

And that’s about it!

I think that’s everything I wanted to update you all on for now, and if you hav any comments I’d love to hear about them over on my Facebook page or on Twitter 😉
