It came to me this weekend.
3 months from now I will have participated in my first Half Marathon. And not only that, I get to run that half at the 10th Nike Women’s Half in San Francisco.
Eep! I guess that means I need to start getting down to business with my training!
Technically my training started a couple months ago, but honestly I’ve been a bit lazy about it. Mostly because I knew I had so much time, and because I now that I could put my sneakers on right now and go run 10K without much difficulty, and I’ve participated in a number of races/runs this spring so I”m not totally out of running shape.
The problem is there is a big difference between 10K and 21k!
So it’s time to get real, and the best way I know how to do that is by using the blog to keep me accountable. From here on out Mondays will be dedicated to reviewing my training from the prior week and setting my plan for the upcoming week. And because I’m going to be running with Team in Training, these posts will outline my fundraising progress as well.
Let’s start shall we?
Because I teach quite a few fitness classes, I can’t run more than two or three times/week without risking over training. I talked with Gina and Robyn last fall when I was considering running a half and both agree that with my aerobic base I should be fine running the half with only two training runs/week so that’s my plan.
Last week I had planned to get in a hill repeats run and a 12km long run. The hill repeats happened (and totally kicked my rear!)
but the long run didn’t. I had planned to go on Friday or Sunday, and after Thursday’s ER adventure, my heart just wasn’t in it.
This week it’s going to be a speed training run, and hopefully that missed 12k form last week.
On the fundraising front, I didn’t get much done there last week either. I’ve been having printer issues and haven’t been able to get my fundraising letters printed/sent out, but managed to get my hands on those this morning and got them all ready and into the mail! Here’s hoping I get some donations!!
I also decided to extend the registration for my “Gimme S’More” virtual 5K to this Friday now that the finishers medal is nearly finished (only a few last touches to add) I am hoping to get more people registered this week. Since posting this photo last night
I’ve had 4 or 5 more people register so I’m hoping a few more will follow suit. If you’d like to register check out this post!
So the fundraising plan for this week is to keep the momentum going and hopefully get a few more virtual 5K participants, and then it’s time to start planning/organizing for my next event. I’m thinking maybe a cookie and granola sale or something, I’m not sure yet.
