2013 Goals – 2 Months In

Good morning everybody!  I thought since we’ve entered the third month of 2013, it was time for me to check in on how I’m doing on my Goals for 2013 .

I think checking in every 2 or 3 months when you have year long goals is a great way to help keep you on track.  I’m not going to re-list all of my goals for the year (since you can go back and read about them here), instead I’m going to talk about those goals I’ve been actively working on and those that I am going to be focusing on over the next couple months.

First, let’s look at what I have accomplished with the goals I’ve been concentrating on:

Professional:

Blogging 5 times/week

Okay, so clearly I’m not 100% succeeding on this one.  I didn’t post at all last week (due to health problems, but I could have at least posted saying I was taking some time off).  However, overall I’ve done very well at posting at least three times/week, and in many weeks 5 (or more) times.  I’d say considerable progress has been made, and since I still have 10 months to get to a constant 5x/week posting schedule I think I”m doing pretty well! Grade: B

Organize

I’m generally a very organized person, but my office was a mess, and I was bad at keeping my accounting records up to date.  I’m happy to report that I’ve already completed my accounting for the month of February and I’ve organized (my side) of the office and it’s looking pretty now instead of a hopeless mountain of papers and objects. Grade: A

Build a Bigger Business

My blogging business is certainly increasing, already this month I’ve had more pageviews than I had in the entire month of September.   I’ve redesigned the site and overall I’m really happy with how things are going here.  Grade: A

My fitness classes are holding their own, and I’m in a bit of a different place right now as I’m having to cut back on how many classes I teach for heath reasons so my focus on this goal is shifting slightly.  In order to help offset the loss of income from reducing classes I’ve taken up a new hobby that will hopefully make me a few bucks – making handmade hair ties and slipless headbands.

hair ties headbands

While my main focus is selling them locally, I’m happy to ship them to anyone willing to cover the cost of postage.  You can check out my facebook page here if you’re interested. Grade: unknown as goal has slightly changed…

Personal:

Pay off debt

Like I mentioned in my original goals post, we don’t carry a balance on our credit cards but I do have a line of credit that I used to purchase my car a little over a year ago, and used it to help cover some unexpected expenses as well and wanted to work on paying it off.  My goal was to pay off 50% of it this year and so far I’ve paid off 11% of the balance which means that so far I’m on target to hit my 50% goal by the end of the year. Grade: B+

Save more

I’ve saved a couple hundred dollars so far this year towards a trip to Disney World, and have started an emergency fund account.  Good thing too, as I’m going to be taking an unexpected week off from teaching next week, and because I had saved that money it won’t make me/us short (remember, when you’re self employed – if you don’t work you don’t get paid.  No paid sick or vacation time). Grade B

More “off” time

This is a work in progress for sure.  I *think* I’m better at not working on the weekends (except for my scheduled weekend classes), and  while I really should have taken the week off last week (or even this week) to recover from the aforementioned mystery health issue (I promise I’ll explain what’s going on later this week), J had already booked the week of March 10th off so I opted to wait and take that week off instead so I could be home with him.  We have no plans to go anywhere that week so there will be lots of time for movies and marathon TV watching (which is exactly what I need right now). Grade: B

Health

Jucing

I’ve been using my juicer more often, but certainly not the 3x/week I want to be.  There is really no excuse for this, I simply need to do it. Grade: C

Fitness

Complete Mud Hero Race in July & Bluenose 5 or 10K in May

I’m registered for both (I opted for the 10K in May)!  Right now that’s all I can do for those ones.  I’m going to start training for the 10K in April.  I don’t think my time for the 10K will be that great as I won’t be able to start running again for at least a month, but I know I’ll be able to finish it even if I’m dead last. Grade B

Next up…. the goals I’ll be concentrating more on (in addition to those listed above) over the next few months

– Getting my PiYo License (time is running out, I need to get it done)

– Yoga (My original goal was 10 minutes 5 days/week.  I’m now revamping that to 30 minutes)

– Build muscle/strength (Physique 57 DVDs, I’m committing to doing a video 3x/week once I’m well)

Question:

Did you set goals for 2013?  How are you dong so far?

I set a few goals for this year. Silly ones (or so some will think), but ones I’m excited to accomplish.
    1) Get my wedding rings back on. It’s not because I’m separated from my husband, but when I was pregnant with baby # 2, I took them off cause I didn’t want to have them cut off from swelling/weight gain. I’m trying to lose the weight and I’ll know I’m on the right path when the rings are back on!
    2) Lose the baby weight by doing it the healthy way. Sometimes I get tempted to buy the cleanses and the diet pills that guarantee weight loss, but I’m still breastfeeding so I have to lose weight but still be healthy for the baby. Zumba and healthy eating will get me there!
    3) Learn to knit. I love seeing the cute baby hats and I must confess, sometimes I wish they made them in adult size. Plus, I’ll have a fun hobby and can give what I make as gifts to friends/family. My mother-in-law has already agreed to teach me and hopefully I can find some good you-tube videos to help.
    🙂

Those are great goals! Breastfeeding should actually help you lose weight, you burn something like 500 extra calories a day just producing all of that milk 🙂

A friend of mine has just started an online knitting bootcamp where she is going to teach people to knit through youtube videos. If you want me to send you a link for the facebook group just let me know 🙂
