The summer of adventure continues this time with a trip to Medford Beach! While I haven’t been chronicling them all here on the blog, if you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you’ve undoubtably noticed that I’ve been out on quite a few different adventures this spring/summer.
Really, it all started back in the spring when I finally decided to truly give up running. Because that had been my outside activity for so many years, I wanted to replace it with something else, and that something else became hiking. It’s been quite convenient that my usual hiking buddies all managed to snag a pair of Merrell hiking shoes along with me so we were all equipped for going on adventures!
It’s been so much fun for me to get to go to these places I’ve never been, and enjoying all the beauty that Nova Scotia has to offer, while staying active, hanging out with friends, and practising my photography.
What’s even more fun is that Fuji recently sent me a mirrorless camera – the X-A3 to help me capture my adventures!
While I love my Canon DSLR, that sucker is heavy. And carrying it around all day can be quite the pain, which is why the X-A3 is so nice, it’s light and compact, and while I’ve only been using the kit lens which is a 16-50mm, they have a wide range of lenses I can add to my collection as I deem it necessary (which I will 😉 ).
My most recent adventure was this past Saturday when Lisa and I went to Medford Beach to check out the sand formations. Neither of us had ever been but had been wanting to go for some time, so we packed up our cameras, sunscreen, water and bug spray and hit the road.
Obviously we knew what awaited us, and had both seen lots of pictures but for some reason we were still amazed at the beauty when we got to see it in person. What is really nice about Medford Beach is that it is pretty secluded so it’s not overly crowded or busy, which makes it a dream for photographs (since you don’t have to work very hard to get photos without people in them).

At the time we were at the beach there were maybe 10-12 other people there, and in the oodles of photos I took (and trust me, I took oodles) I don’t think any of them are in a single one.
The day was absolutely beautiful. We have had a lot of humid weather these last few weeks, but Saturday it was glorious. Warm but not hot and not humid at all. The sky was blue with cute white clouds here and there. We really couldn’t have asked for a more picturesque day.
Last summer when we were in New Brunswick, we visited Hopewell Rocks, which was breathtaking, but also filled with people. All my shots from that day have groups of people scattered throughout, so it felt really special to be on Medford Beach and have it {almost} to ourselves.
Have I mentioned what an amazing day it was on Saturday? Holy moly.
Since I’ve only had the Fuji X-A3 for a little over a week, I haven’t played around with the settings too much and shot all of these in the landscape mode. The only editing done was to do some exposure correction on PicMonkey, otherwise everything you see is as it was shot.
Perhaps you don’t know that I’ve always had an adoration for the sky and white fluffy clouds, but I do and this picture below just fills my puffy little cloud heart.
It was also amazing at just how far the tide goes out here. We didn’t walk that far out, but I am use to being on the beach and even at low tide, easily being able to see the water line, but not here. We couldn’t definitively tell where exactly the water started or stopped. And that red sand. Come. On.
Nature continues to amaze me because these formations (many of which have fallen over the years) are nothing short of marvelous.
We both took so many pictures, it just didn’t get old!
And I may have said about 150000 times, “What a perfect day!”
Because it really, really was!

After we left the beach we headed up to Blomidon for a short hike to Bordon Brook Falls, which is currently little more than a trickle. It was pretty easy to find though, so I think we’ll head back in the fall or next spring when there is more water to see it in all it’s glory. It was an easy walk though so if you are staying at the Blomidon Camp Grounds or visiting the beach, it’s worth checking out!
All in all we had a fantastic adventure, and were able to check another thing off of our summer to-do list! But that list is pretty long so we still have some work to do to finish it off 😉
I was exhausted by the time I got home, but I wanted to share a few photos from our adventure on Instagram. One of my favourite features so far on the X-A3 is its wireless connection. I can transfer photos from the camera onto my phone with a few clicks of a button – no computer required. It’s so convenient! You can also use it as a remote shutter release which is awesome. I can’t wait to really dig into all this cute little powerful camera can do!
I guess that means I’ll have to keep on adventuring – and that is a-ok with me!

Who says you have to leave the province to see amazing sights? Lovely photos of beautiful scenery.
I guess we just have to remember to look around and see where we are!
Great photos! Totally makes me want to visit; it’s been ages since I was in that part of Nova Scotia. Thanks for sharing!
YOu really should, we have so many fabulous places to explore!!
