Rose & Clara At 7 Months

Why hello there! It’s your resident crazy cat lady back with another monthly update on the kittens. It was three months ago Saturday that these feisty little girls came home with me from the SPCA, and today they are 7 months old!

It’s funny that when you see them every day you notice that they are getting bigger, but not in the same way as when you only see them once in a while. My sister in law was here last night and mentioned how much bigger they are, and Rose is clearly bigger but Miss Clara still is pretty tiny. So I questioned her and said, “Even Clara!?” Yes I know she has grown, but  much like Ollie, I think she will always be our little baby kitten.

Speaking of Clara, let’s start off with her this month!

Clara continues to be a difficult girl to get a good photo of as she is always trying to either grab the camera or is in general always spinning around. People ask why there tend to be more pictures of Rose and that is why – because pictures of Clara frequently turn out as nothing more than a blur!

Current weight: 6.2lbs (she was 3.6lbs when we brought her home 3 months ago)

Nickname: Mousie

Likes:

• Eating. She has now picked up Pekoe’s old habit of scratching her face on the cat brush thing on the corner of the wall when she wants food. Also likes to look extra adorable when hungry. I know, it’s hard to imagine that kitten being even cuter, but it’s possible.
• Leaves.
• Sneaking into the media room in the basement when she shouldn’t be there and immediately running to hide behind the couch before I can grab her.
• Playing with pompoms. They are the perfect kitten toy for a prissy little kitten. Who knew?
• Snuggling with oat bags/magic bags. And yes on occasion I heat one up for her. She’s just so little I don’t want her to be cold!
• Crinkly papers and bags
• Napping in her “beehive” also known as the mouse house (she is the mouse, obviously)

Dislikes:

• Not being able to go into the media room in the basement whenever she pleases.
• Strong chemical-y smells (perfume, hair spray, deodorant, etc.)
• People playing with her back toes
• Halloween costumes. Costumes.

Clara also has a habit of sitting with one front paw in the air. My husband worrying that there is something wrong with it, but she walks and runs on it just fine. I think it is a quirk. Like how girls often put all their weight in one leg and stick their hip out a bit and bend the opposite knee but don’t weight bare in it so much while standing still. Does that make sense? It does in my mind, haha. Anyway, I think that just solidifies that she is 100% a prissy princess. I mean anyone who wears a formal tuxedo and a bowtie 24/7 is bound to be a little prissy.

And then we have Rose.

Current weight: 7.8lbs (she was 4.9lbs when we got her 3 months ago)

Likes:

• Playing fetch with mom (she plays fabulously, and prefers fetching a pompom. Seriously, pompoms are a big hit around here)
• Biting mom on the face. Still.
• Laying on the floor with papa
• Watching sports with papa (she actually watches and gets excited about balls and pucks moving around 😀 )
• Jumping into Clara’s “Mouse House” while Clara is still in it (it’s a little small for the two of them!)
• Finding ways to get past the “barricade” in the basement that keeps them away from garbage and whatnot. Yesterday she got through a few times. My wall building skills are being tested.
• Attacking mom’s hair. Especially when wet.

Dislikes:

• Having to wait for food.
• Being disturbed while eating her food.
• Not being allowed in the media room when papa is playing video games (this not being allowed in there most of the time is a real bee in both of their bonnets)
• Being left alone.
• Not having her own iPhone. But really all she wants to do is eat our Otterbox cases.

Rose is so long and lanky, it’ll be interesting to see how big she is when she finishes growing. At it is right now, she still hasn’t grown into her ears, and definitely not into her legs. She’s still pretty derpy by times, and plays a bit too roughly with Clara considering their size difference.

Overall they are still a very lovely duo who obviously love each other a lot. I’ve never had sibling pets before so this is a new experience for me and it’s pretty delightful (except when they are playing and things get too rough). When you stumble upon them all huddled up together on our bed or on the couch sleeping your heart can’t help but melt. <3
