Perception. I feel like this week’s Car Confessions got a little bit more sombre than I had set out for it to be, but I guess it went where it needed to go. Perception can be such a tricky thing, to someone else it can appear as though you have everything handled, your life is perfect and you couldn’t possibly have a care in the world, at the exact same time that you feel like your entire life is a complete and total disaster.
Perception in Social Media
This has become increasingly prevalent in this day and age of social media where we are faced with purposefully curated Facebook/Instagram/Twitter feeds that show us only what that content creator wants to show us – and make no mistake, no matter if you have a Facebook profile just to share pictures of your dog, or you have a page with 5 million people following it, you are a content creator and curator.
As a social media influencer myself, I’ve always taken great efforts to appear on the computer the exact same person I am “off” the computer. I am always thrilled when people tell me that I write the same way that I talk, or that I am exactly the same in-person as I appear online. That doesn’t mean I don’t make an effort to make my content appear nice, or that I don’t put on makeup and try to fix my hair before shooting photos or video (but on days I record after classes, I understandably look a bit more rumpled, haha.
Perception: As a Fitness Instructor
To an extent, there is also a preconceived perception of what it’s like to be a fitness instructor. That we always love exercising, eat healthy food all the time and basically try to be perfect. Hopefully, if you are reading this you know that I’ve never believed in any of that. I mean, would I have created a website called “Confessions of a Fitness Instructor …because being healthy isn’t about being perfect” if I did? But that doesn’t change the fact that I still sometimes catch people modifying their conversations when they know I can hear because they think those things.
Believe me, when I say, NOTHING is all rainbows and sunshine. Not even the weather!
Car Confessions: It’s not all rainbows and sunshine
And hey – did you notice the new title screen!? I was sick of the darn pre-made ones I decided it was time to make my own. Who knows, maybe next week I’ll get around to making a proper end slate. But let’s not hold our breath there!
If you didn’t notice it here it is for your viewing pleasure 😀
Thanks so much for tuning in, and as always your comments and shares are always very much appreciated!
