Healthy Habits You Can Start Today

There is so much emphasis on starting new habits with the new year, but there’s no need to wait until January. Try adding some “clean” habits to your daily life that could improve your health.  It’s as easy as doing one or two things differently every day for self-care, and as I’m sure you know this is my mentality. You don’t always need to make drastic changes in order to start feeling better in your body and life.

Here are a few healthy habits to think about as spring finally comes into bloom that might make a real difference in how you feel:

It’s not summer, but there’s still sun.

We often think of sunscreen on hot summer days before we hit the beach or pool, but we don’t consider it enough year-round. We sometimes shy away from applying sunscreen daily because it can take long to absorb, or leaves an unwanted residue. That’s why Coppertone has developed ClearlySheer Whipped and WaterBabies Whipped. Both absorb quickly, leave skin hydrated and provide SPF 50 protection from UVA/UVB rays so you and your family can stay protected all year round. And don’t forget your face! Make sure your daily moisturizer and/or makeup has SPF coverage built-in to avoid another step in your morning routine while keeping your face protected.

Oh and don’t forget your hat! Especially if you are a dark-haired fair-skinned individual like me, a hat is key to preventing sunburns on your scalp which are really painful!!

Take advantage of the outdoors.

As it gets nicer outside, it tends to become easier to keep (or restart) your New Year’s resolution to be more active. Working out does not always have to be in a gym or be a strenuous activity. Walk around your neighbourhood, catch the blooming cherry blossoms or go on a hike. If you love running or cycling, get out there and hit the trails! If you do strain your muscles, treat your pain with ALEVE Back & Body Pain. One pill gives you up to 12 hours of relief from muscle pain, body pain and headaches. I try to only use pain relievers when it’s necessary, but when you’ve got back pain – it’s definitely necessary!

Take time to meditate.

This may sound daunting, but it only takes a few minutes a day to practice meditation and focus your mind. There are many kinds of meditation and apps you can use to get started. Meditation can help centre you before the day begins, or after a long day and actually physically changes how your brain works (for the better)!

Pay attention to your body.

Life is so hectic, and we often ignore obvious symptoms of our body telling us something is off. Many ailments can be treated early and at home so when your body is trying to tell you something, listen up! A common example for women is Bacterial Vaginosis (BV). Sorry if it’s a little TMI but BV affects so many women, but it’s easy to ignore symptoms like abnormal discharge or an unpleasant odour when life gets busy. CanesBalance is an easy and effective at-home treatment that can relieve unwanted symptoms and prevent future recurrences. Aside from treating BV when it crops up, remember to change out of sweaty clothes as soon as possible after working out. Also try to avoid wearing fabrics that don’t breath to allow better airflow down there.

Spring has sprung, and I hope you’ll join me in adopting new healthy habits as the weather warms and days get longer. Tell me what habit you’d like to add to your routine. Personally, I’m over here impatiently waiting for the weather to get warm enough for me to get out on my paddle board!
