I recently had the chance to talk to Dr. Keltie Warren from Warren’s Cafe of Life in Coldbrook, Nova Scotia about her chiropractic practice, what makes her approach different than most and what five of the things she talks to her patients about that might surprise you.
What followed was a super interesting conversation and one that I just know you are going to enjoy. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in for a fun podcast episode!
There is Nothing Wrong With You with Dr. Keltie Warren
1. Your problem isn’t your problem
Your pain has been bothering you for years, that isn’t what generally brings people into Keltie’s practice, it’s when the effect that pain is having on a patient’s life that brings them in.
2. Pain is an emotion
Pain is not determined at the area where you think you feel it, it’s determined in your brain. There is actually zero correlation between the amount of damage in the body and the amount of pain we experience.
Chiropractors cannot treat your pain, they can see how well your brain is talking to your body and treat your symptoms from there.
3. There is NOTHING wrong with you
Most people go to the doctor or to a Chiropractor to cure something that is wrong with them, but Dr. Warren believes there is nothing WRONG with any of us.
If you are stuck in fight or flight, your resting heart rate should be raised, your blood pressure should be elevated, that is how your body responds to stress. So there is nothing wrong with you if your body is doing what it is supposed to be doing when in a fight or flight situation, it’s doing its job.
The truth is, the state you are in is due to the choice you are making, which is something many people don’t want to hear, but it’s the truth.
4. How do you know you are healthy?
When patients come into her practice and Dr. Warren asks them how they are feeling, and they say fine she responds with, “Just because you feel fine, doesn’t mean you are healthy.”
How many people do you hear of who felt “fine” on Friday and died of a heart attack on Monday?
The real question is, how well is your brain talking to your body.
Because there comes a point where we don’t even recognize that we don’t feel “fine”.
5. In order for you to truly heal, you need to have the right mindset.
By the age of 35, 95% of what we do is a habitual pattern so to make a change is really difficult, and something you need to be dedicated to doing.
Suzi note: Check out The Power of Habit which is a really fascinating book about how much habit truly runs our lives.
