January is all but over, and for many, they have reached the critical point of their new year’s resolutions. The point where they make the choice to continue on or give up. The nice this is that you don’t need to wait for a new year to make a change. Each day, week or in the case month is perfect time to set the counter back to zero and reflect on your personal goals for the remainder of the year. Whether your final objective is increasing your workout time, reading more books or picking up a new hobby, how will you make sure your 2018 goals will stick whether you started them back on January 1st, or are looking at February 1st as your start date?
While we all start off with great intentions, the road to a new routine can be a steep climb. Here are a few tips that will help you stay dedicated to your resolutions in 2018.
- Arm yourself with the right tools
Whether your sport is walking, running, or fitness classes, increase your chances of staying in the race by making sure you’re wearing the right shoes for your specific activity. For runners, be sure to pick up shoes specific for your gait and always break in new shoes with shorter runs first. Try replacing the thin insoles that come with your running shoes with insoles made for running. Dr. Scholl’s Active Series Insoles can reduce shock by 40 per cent and alleviate pain from common sports injuries including runner’s knee, shin splints and plantar fasciitis.
- Keep a journal
Take the extra time to expand your resolutions into realistic, measurable goals. Be specific about how you plan to achieve them and track your weekly progress in a journal. Remember to include checkpoints to celebrate the small achievements along the way! If you want to join in on my free goals challenge, head over to facebook and ask to join my VIP Wellness Group. The challenge started on January 1st, but I’ve been keeping the tasks to one/week so you can easily catch up!
- Practice self-care along the way
If getting active is on your resolutions list, you’ll be quick to develop a love/hate relationship with muscle soreness. On one hand, you’ve crushed a hard workout, but your reward is a sore back and neck. Take control of your pain at home. ALEVE Pain Relief Caplets provide fast acting 12-hour relief from back and body aches so you can get back to it. Paired with a relaxing bath or shower and a little time on your foam roller or rolling out your feet and you’ll be feeling great in no time!
- Rest and recovery
No matter what you’re trying to achieve this year, always factor adequate rest into your schedule. Staying up late to finish a book on your reading list can be counterproductive to reaching your goals. Get at least six hours of sleep each night and mix in a meditation session once a week to help refresh your mind and body.
As a bedtime reader, I often fall into the habit of staying up too late reading, so I’ve been trying to break that habit these last few weeks. It’s hard when you’ve got a good book on the go but I’m learning to set aside a little time during my day (but before bed) so I can still get in a good reading sesh!).
In addition to the examples above, how will you prepare to stay dedicated to your New Year’s resolutions?

I really love the insoles too. They help extend the life of my sneakers so I don’t have to swap out the ones I wear for classes nearly as often!
I couldn’t agree more!! I really want to get back into the habit of reading before bed again too. I need to go to bed earlier so I don’t put it off entirely because I’m too tired. Youre so smart Suzi.
GOing to bed earlier so you have time to read is key. I was up until 1:20am last night finishing a book because I am actually not that smart, hahaha
